Anthropic founders pledged 80% of their equity for philanthropy, valued at up to $79.4 billion. The seven cofounders own 1.69 billion shares, with donation terms still unclear. The move comes as altcoins to watch gain traction amid shifting market sentiment. The Public Benefit Fund, separate from the pledge, holds $50 billion for AI-related causes. Founders will keep voting power via a special share structure. Fear and greed index readings suggest mixed investor behavior as major crypto players make strategic moves.

Anthropic's seven cofounders have each promised to devote 80% of their personal equity in the AI company to philanthropy. Anthropic reiterated the commitments in an IPO filing released to the public Monday morning. The founders are Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei, Tom Brown, Jack Clark, Jared Kaplan, Sam McCandlish and Chris Olah. The founders together own roughly 1.69 billion shares.

Fortune's analysis of share counts and the latest private funding-round price puts the founders' combined holdings at approximately $99.3 billion. Fortune calculates that the pledged 80% would total about $79.4 billion, averaging roughly $11 billion for each founder. The S-1 does not specify the offering price or how many shares each founder will sell. The founders' remaining holdings therefore cannot yet receive a definitive valuation.

The filing characterizes the promises as voluntary and revocable, not legally enforceable obligations. Donation schedules and beneficiaries remain uncertain. The founders could meet the commitments through charities, private foundations, donor-advised funds or other philanthropic vehicles.

Donating most of the founders' holdings would not necessarily remove the founders' influence over Anthropic. The proposed governance arrangements would give the seven founders a combined 50.1% of voting power on matters submitted to shareholders generally. The founders would exercise that power through a special share held by Founder LLC. Each cofounder can remain in Founder LLC by retaining at least 2% of the Class A shares that the cofounder held at the IPO. A cofounder could therefore donate 98% of that stake while continuing to participate in decisions about the controlling share's vote. However, a separate Long-Term Benefit Trust would have the power to select a majority of directors.

The personal pledges are distinct from Anthropic's Public Benefit Fund. The Public Benefit Fund's shares would have an approximate value of $50 billion using the same private funding-round benchmark. Anthropic says the Public Benefit Fund could finance nonprofits or make payments directly to particular populations, including initiatives addressing AI's effects on workers.

The S-1 shows that Anthropic's revenue reached $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, compared with $1.2 billion a year earlier. Anthropic could secure as much as $100 billion through the IPO. Anthropic intends to list on Nasdaq with the ticker ANT. The market debut is expected around Thanksgiving and could put Anthropic's valuation between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.

CEO Dario Amodei described the pledge in a January essay about AI risks. Dario Amodei argued that people enriched by AI have a duty to address the technology's economic effects. Dario Amodei warned that excessive concentration of AI-generated wealth could damage society. "The thing to worry about is a level of wealth concentration that will break society," Dario Amodei wrote.
