Andreessen Horowitz's Bio + Health division is backing Braveheart Bio's $318.8 million Nasdaq IPO, pushing the crypto market to watch biotech expansion. The clinical-stage firm, founded in November 2025, seeks a $1.2 billion valuation with no approved drugs. Its lead candidate, BHB-1893, licensed from Jiangsu Hengrui, is in Phase 2 trials for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Global Phase 3 trials are planned for late 2026 or early 2027. The IPO price range is $15–$17 per share, with ticker BRVE. Crypto analysis suggests growing interest in cross-sector investments.

Andreessen Horowitz, the venture capital firm that built its brand on crypto bets and Web3 conviction, is anchoring the IPO of a biotech company that has exactly zero blockchain references in its SEC filings. Braveheart Bio has filed to raise up to $318.8 million in an initial public offering on Nasdaq, and a16z Bio + Health is the lead backer.

The company, which was founded just eight months ago in November 2025, is targeting a valuation of up to $1.2 billion. For a firm with no approved drugs and a lead candidate still in Phase 2 trials, that’s a bold ask.

What Braveheart actually does

Braveheart Bio is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or HCM. In English: it’s developing an oral pill for a condition where the heart muscle gets abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood.

The company’s lead asset is BHB-1893, a cardiac myosin inhibitor in-licensed from Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals, a major Chinese drugmaker. That licensing arrangement puts Braveheart in an increasingly crowded lane of US biotech firms sourcing promising compounds from China and running them through Western regulatory pathways.

Positive Phase 2 clinical data was reported in March and May 2026 for both obstructive and non-obstructive forms of HCM. Global Phase 3 trials are expected to begin in late 2026 or early 2027. The company plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker BRVE.

Amended IPO terms as of July 30 price shares between $15 and $17, adjusting the total raise to approximately $300 million. The S-1 registration was originally filed with the SEC on July 15, 2026.

The board is chaired by Chris Viehbacher, former CEO of Biogen, with Travis Murdoch serving as CEO. Other investors alongside a16z include Forbion, OrbiMed, Enavate Sciences, and Frazier Life Sciences.

Why crypto investors should pay attention to a heart drug IPO

Andreessen Horowitz famously raised $4.5 billion for its fourth crypto fund in 2022, making it the largest crypto venture fund in history at the time. When a16z starts writing large checks for biotech IPOs through its Bio + Health arm, it tells you something about the relative attractiveness of opportunities across sectors.

Braveheart’s $185 million Series A funding round closed in November 2025. Eight months later, the company is going public at a potential $1.2 billion valuation. That’s a roughly 6x paper markup in under a year.

Bristol Myers Squibb and Cytokinetics are both active in the HCM treatment space, which means Braveheart is entering a market with validated demand and deep-pocketed incumbents.

What this means for investors

The China-to-US licensing model that Braveheart employs is itself a trend worth watching. As geopolitical tensions fluctuate, the regulatory pathway for compounds originating from Chinese pharmaceutical companies remains uncertain. Any policy shifts there could affect not just Braveheart but the entire cohort of US biotechs relying on similar arrangements.
