Crypto analyst Darkfost has disputed predictions that a 20% drop in the S&P 500 would drive Bitcoin’s price to $10,000. The analyst noted that such a level would represent an 87% decline from the current BTC price and a 92% drop from the 2021 peak. Historical data from 2018 and 2025 shows mixed results, with the 2025 S&P 19% decline resulting in only a 22% Bitcoin price drop. Darkfost argues that there is insufficient historical evidence to support a direct link between a 20% S&P correction and a $10,000 BTC price. Traders are advised to monitor altcoins for signs of potential volatility shifts.

Recently, some in the community have suggested that a 20% correction in U.S. stocks could trigger a Bitcoin crash to $10,000. Cryptocurrency analyst Darkfost analyzed this claim, noting that a drop to $10,000 would represent an approximate 87% decline from current prices and a drawdown of about 92% from its all-time high. Historically, Bitcoin has only experienced a maximum drawdown exceeding 92% once—in 2011. The maximum drawdowns in 2015, 2019, 2022, and 2026 were 82.5%, 82.6%, 74.4%, and 54.2%, respectively.
Darkfost further noted that during a roughly 19.53% pullback in the S&P 500, Bitcoin fell by approximately 80% in 2018; however, when the S&P 500 experienced a similar pullback of over 19% in April 2025, Bitcoin declined by only about 22%. Therefore, directly linking a 20% U.S. stock market correction to Bitcoin dropping to $10,000 lacks sufficient historical support.
