ChainThink reports that on July 30, CNBC revealed that Situational Awareness, an AI-themed hedge fund founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, has suffered significant losses due to misjudged investments in software stocks. The fund has since paused certain trades and is urgently raising capital to address liquidity pressures.

According to insiders, major brokers such as Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan are assisting the fund in meeting leverage requirements or orderly reducing its positions. These brokers have already promoted portions of the fund’s assets to the market in both long and short formats prior to trading commencement to facilitate sales.

The fund’s future disposal path remains unclear, and it is uncertain whether it will satisfy margin requirements through negotiated asset sales or proceed to full asset liquidation. The fund is also attempting to increase liquidity by selling equity stakes in private companies, including its prior investment in Anthropic;

The number of shares currently available for sale has not been determined, and potential buyers have expressed interest in purchasing some or all of the shares.

The filing shows that as of the end of the first quarter, Situational Awareness’s largest positions included Nebius, SanDisk, Micron, and CoreWeave, all of which declined more than 35% this month.

The fund was established in 2024, peaked at approximately $20 billion in assets, and achieved a net return of 439% as of June 2026. Its strategy primarily focused on AI infrastructure and computing power chain companies, utilizing leverage to amplify positions.
