Based on Crypto.News, a joint project by Anthropic and MATS Fellows tested AI models like GPT-5 and Claude against Ethereum smart contracts using the SCONE-bench framework. The AI models identified and exploited zero-day vulnerabilities in 405 real-world contracts, generating simulated losses of $550.1 million. In tests involving 2,849 contracts with no known vulnerabilities, GPT-5 and Sonnet 4.5 uncovered two new zero-day flaws, producing simulated profits of nearly $3,700. The study highlights the growing threat of AI-driven cyberattacks and the need for proactive AI-powered defenses in blockchain systems.
