Adobe and OpenAI have significantly expanded their partnership today. Users can now directly access more than 70 Adobe tools—including Photoshop, Premiere, Acrobat, Lightroom, Illustrator, and InDesign—within ChatGPT to perform tasks such as photo editing, creating marketing videos, and generating PDFs.

At the end of last year, Adobe integrated Photoshop, Acrobat, and Adobe Express into ChatGPT using OpenAI's Apps SDK. Starting August 6, the partnership expanded to include nearly the entire suite of creative software. After adding the Adobe plugin via the plugin section in ChatGPT’s settings menu, users can simply enter "@Adobe" followed by a specific task in the prompt input box to invoke the corresponding tool.

Adobe states that the plugin works best when used with OpenAI’s Codex programming application and the recently released Work suite. Users can access basic features without logging into a Creative Cloud account; logging in allows them to save progress across sessions and directly access cloud files. Creative Cloud accounts can also be used to invoke generative AI models powered by Adobe Firefly.

Forrest Key, Vice President of Adobe Firefly and Agent AI, said: “We want people to be able to use Adobe’s professional-grade creative and productivity tools no matter where they work.” However, he emphasized that the Adobe plugin in ChatGPT is not a replacement for flagship applications: “When precise control and full command over the creative process are required, flagship applications still offer deeper functionality.”

This partnership signifies that ChatGPT is evolving from a conversational tool into a "super workspace," enabling users to complete their creative workflows without switching between multiple applications. For Adobe, this is a strategic move to embed its ecosystem of tools within AI-native workflows; for OpenAI, it is another step toward expanding ChatGPT’s practical applications and enhancing user engagement.
