ChainThink reports that on August 28, according to an official announcement from a16z, the Silicon Valley venture capital firm a16z has raised $1.1 billion for its latest fund, the Machine Age Fund, which will focus on investing in the full stack of computing infrastructure that supports AI.
The fund invests in complete systems including chips, memory, networking, storage, data centers, robotics, and home AI devices.
a16z stated that over the past year, AI has reached a clear inflection point in its application capabilities and types of work, expanding from chat and reasoning to knowledge-intensive tasks such as programming, resulting in an order-of-magnitude increase in demand for compute and tokens.
a16z stated that its team has expertise in hardware, data centers, chips, networks, and large-scale computing systems, and has established a network of resources covering market expansion, talent acquisition, marketing, customers, suppliers, and U.S. manufacturing to support the next generation of AI hardware entrepreneurs.
