12,151 out of 15,206 traders who bought memecoins ended up in the red, while only 3,026 wallets turned a profit, noted analysts at Bubblemaps. In total, 88 wallets collectively earned approximately $5.57 million, two lost between $100,000 and $1 million, and around a hundred of the unluckiest traders each lost more than $10,000.
Lookonchain analysts have tracked some of the largest losses. One user bought LAPTOP for $200,000 immediately upon trading launch, and within an hour, their assets dropped to $3,000. Another wallet spent $170,000 to purchase 28,448.72 tokens and lost 87% of their investment, leaving them with meme coins worth a total of $21,000.

The trading peak for LAPTOP was reached just two minutes after launch, according to the Arkham platform. At that moment, the memecoin’s price surged to $190.81, implying a theoretical market capitalization (fully diluted valuation, FDV) of nearly $144 billion with a liquidity pool of around $48,000. The token then dropped to $1.34 and is trading at $0.8 as of Thursday, September 10.
As Arkham shows, the multi-wallet labeled Laptop Token received 100 million tokens seven days before trading began—10% of the 1 billion meme coin supply. By the time of launch, approximately 42.5 million tokens had been distributed from this wallet. Around 15.5 million LAPTOP were transferred to market maker GSR four days before trading opened. Another 14.5 million were sent to an unmarked address roughly two hours before trading began.
As you may have seen, the LAPTOP memecoin experienced a sharp swing in token price during its first hours of trading.
The headlines are all the same.
Token down 99%. Rug pull. Biden Crime Family. The list goes on.
This is far from the truth.
The reality is that available liquidity…
— Hunter Biden (@HunterBiden) September 9, 2026Hunter Biden himself stated that he did not make a single cent from his memecoin. The son of the former president clarified that the founders' tokens are locked, and he blamed the cryptocurrency’s collapse on sniper bots (automated programs that execute crypto trades in fractions of a second) and technical glitches. Biden Jr. said that “the available liquidity could not withstand such a level of interest at launch.”
The memecoin LAPTOP was launched on the Base blockchain of the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. The token's name references the story of a laptop that Hunter Biden left at a repair shop seven years ago. In October 2020, the tabloid New York Post published information from the laptop just weeks before the presidential election. The files stored on the laptop sparked a scandal—emails, personal photos, and data on foreign business contacts potentially suggesting possible corrupt ties between Hunter Biden and his father.
