As the November light turns colder over the prairie, and the fields settle into the bare stillness of late autumn, and the soul watches how easily favor is claimed without the weight that should carry it, consider the danger of unwarranted favor. David was old and confined to his bed when Adonijah exalted himself, saying, “I will be king.” He gathered chariots, horsemen, and key supporters, but he acted without David's authorization or the promised succession. Nathan and Bathsheba acted, Solomon was anointed, and the feast of the pretender collapsed in a moment. Solomon granted Adonijah a narrow mercy — life if he proved himself worthy. Favor taken without appointment is never secure. In Mark the gospel begins with a voice in the wilderness and the Spirit descending on Jesus. Authority is not seized. It is confirmed from heaven, tested in the wilderness, and then exercised in teaching that astonishes and in power that frees the oppressed. The first disciples leave their nets because the call carries real weight. Proverbs opens by naming the purpose of wisdom: instruction, understanding, and the fear of the Lord as the beginning of knowledge. Fools despise wisdom and instruction. True standing begins with reverence, not with self-promotion. In these ordinary days we actually live, the danger of unwarranted favor appears whenever position, attention, or influence is claimed or granted without character, calling, or accountability. It can look like confidence. It often ends in sudden exposure. Scripture keeps distinguishing between favor that rests on God’s appointment and favor that rests only on ambition or convenience. One can be stewarded. The other collapses when the true king is revealed. So today, refuse to grasp what has not been given. Do not confuse momentum with mandate. Walk in the fear of the Lord that is the beginning of knowledge, and let any favor you receive be matched by the weight of integrity. Unwarranted favor is fragile. Appointed faithfulness endures. 🧡 🌙 1 Kings 1:1–53 Mark 1:1–34 Proverbs 1:1–7 Prima di cercare il riconoscimento degli altri, coltiva il timore del Signore: la sapienza comincia dalla riverenza, non dall’ambizione.
