So, what's the idea behind "Layer of Depth"? I have a particular view of what "lore" means for a collection. To me, the real lore is built through things like provenance, the creative process, and the way a community behaves and evolves over the years. I’ve never been too interested in the traditional "storytelling" side of it. I don’t think every collection needs a story, a plot, or an entire fictional universe behind it. That said, with "Paradox", and later "Paradox: Lex Machina", I created 400 characters, each with a small piece of lore attached to them. You can actually find those texts on every Lex Machina card. This time, I wanted to go a little deeper into that universe without having to tell a story nobody really cares about. And since they say a picture is worth a thousand words, I came up with the idea of adding one extra layer of depth to each character: Just one extra image that breaks away from the original pose and gives you a little more insight into who that character is, their personality, their world, or simply what might be happening around them. No long stories. No chapters. Just one more layer.
