Continuing the discussion on reincarnation: Whenever I hear about people in this life who deceive others or do terrible things, I genuinely feel compassion for them—because those they victimize are, in fact, their future selves. Those who are deceived in this life have, by design, this experience set as a reset point along their path—a kind of turning point, or perhaps a doorway opening to new possibilities. Being deceived is undoubtedly shocking, but how we interpret it is entirely up to us. Moreover, if many people remain stuck in the shock of being deceived, the deceivers’ next life may become even more harsh, due to the magnitude of their influence and the resulting karmic reversal. This dynamic operates within the framework of reincarnation and karma, though significant transformation can certainly occur within this lifetime as well—in which case, the changes may be profound and physically demanding.
