In Sri Lanka, people traditionally use a mechanism called “Flasher Kote” (ෆ්ලෑෂර් කොටේ) - a rotating drum with a mechanical circuit breaker used to control decorative lights. Despite modern digital lighting systems, this traditional method is still effective and widely used . It is most commonly seen during the month of May each year, when we celebrate Vesak, one of the most important Buddhist festivals. During Vesak, homes, streets and temples are beautifully decorated with colorful lanterns and light displays, and the Flasher Kote plays a special role in creating those iconic moving light patterns on Vesak Thorna (Vesak Pandol). 🇱🇰
