U.S.–Iran Negotiation Deadlock and Persistently High Interest Rates Push BTC Below the Key $83,000 Support Level
🔍 Key Insights
  • 📊 Market Overview
    • Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran over passage arrangements through the Strait of Hormuz have stalled, prompting Washington to ramp up pressure. U.S. technology stocks came under significant pressure, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq falling for a second consecutive trading day. Reports that OpenAI's annualized revenue was $20 billion lower than previously reported dealt a major blow to the AI trade. Chipmaker Intel fell more than 5%, while optical communications companies Coherent and Applied Optoelectronics dropped nearly 10% and 14%, respectively. After Trump signaled that the U.S. would refrain from attacking Iran before the midterm elections, the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield retreated intraday and the U.S. Dollar Index turned lower. However, geopolitical tensions and rising energy prices continue to pose inflationary and interest-rate risks. Treasury yields had previously climbed to 5.31%, approaching their highest levels since 2002, continuing to weigh on risk assets. The crypto market also moved lower, with BTC breaking below $81,000 to hit a nearly three-week low before staging a modest rebound toward $82,000. The break below $83,000 has intensified short-term selling pressure. If BTC fails to reclaim this level, the price could fall further toward $80,000.

  • 🧠 Market Insights
    • Tokenized assets are expanding beyond relatively mature asset classes such as U.S. Treasuries to encompass economic exposure to private companies like OpenAI. Ondo has launched the OpenAI Private Markets Note, expanding access to private-company economic exposure through 24/7 trading, self-custody, and transferability. However, the note does not represent equity ownership in OpenAI, and investors do not receive shareholder rights. Its actual value remains dependent on the product structure and issuance terms. Meanwhile, the Cardano Foundation has spun off its digital identity project, Veridian, and completed its equity tokenization, demonstrating how public blockchain ecosystems are separating identity infrastructure into independently operated businesses and introducing tokenized ownership structures. Nevertheless, the rapid expansion of tokenized financial markets also raises structural concerns. Data shows that the outstanding value of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) was approximately $65 billion as of July, far below the $30 trillion global capital market. Related repo agreements have daily trading volumes of $300–350 billion, only a fraction of the traditional U.S. repo market. Tokenized equities also suffer from relatively weak liquidity, with volatility approximately 1.5 times that of traditional assets. The IMF has called for legal and regulatory frameworks to be strengthened promptly to mitigate potential sell-offs, liquidity runs, and contagion risks as financial interconnectedness increases.
    • Meanwhile, Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade has been activated on the Sepolia testnet, raising the block gas limit from approximately 60 million to nearly 200 million, more than tripling capacity. Actual gas usage currently accounts for only 26%–46% of the limit. The upgrade also aims to optimize gas costs and parallel processing capabilities. The next testnet, Hoodi, is tentatively scheduled to launch on October 27, while the mainnet upgrade date remains unconfirmed. This marks an important step in Ethereum's scaling roadmap, creating additional capacity for higher-throughput applications and providing infrastructure support for high-frequency, complex on-chain asset trading. Together, these developments illustrate the complementary progress of asset-side innovation and infrastructure scaling.
