Q&A from KuCoin to the Render Network Team

Q: Can you tell us about your background in crypto and why you joined the Render Network Foundation?

Andrew: After a few years of watching, I joined a great ETH project in 2017, but had yet to act on crypto. In 2019, I was lucky enough to join Solana pre-launch. My friend Ryan Shea was getting me back into the space last year. After a week in Lisbon at the Solana Breakpoint conference, I got excited about the real use cases in crypto. We found out the Render Foundation was being formed and got along with the team. Great vision, real use case, and a super kind and smart team. I studied computer graphics in College and dreamed of being a 3d animator. Now I get to power some of the world's best 3d animators. It has been an amazing year, and I'm excited to answer any questions the community has.

Q: Tell us what the Render Foundation is now. What is your role at the foundation, and what are your job responsibilities?

Andrew: The Render Foundation is a not-for-profit dedicated to maintaining the core Render Network protocol and growing its community. I'm the Communications Director and help with everything from our new whitepaper to our socials. We help facilitate governance and listen to the community.

Q: What are some of the achievements of the Render Network Foundation? Also, how does the RNP process work?

Andrew: Someone asked Jules if we were Star Wars or Star Trek nerds the other day. His answer was amazing, "Well, we professionally work with both of them, so we can't pick!"

Kidding aside, We just launched the RNP process in January. It is how the community governs the project (we at the Foundation listen to the community).

Q: Does Render plan on opening up GPU use outside the 3D rendering space it currently is in? What is the Request for Compute?

Andrew: We are currently listening to the community about the need for GPU power. It seems like every AI startup needs them, and we have a 2-year waitlist of GPUs wanting to be nodes on our network. We are listening to what the community wants. We’re excited to announce the implementation of a new process to further network growth: Request For Compute (RFC).

If you need GPU power, please let us know how we can build something for you.

Q: You swing all these developments parallel or reflective of what the community shares. Wasn't it more than necessary on your end?

Andrew: The Render Network can live in powering 3D animation and next-generation graphics. It is interesting to see what we could expand to, especially after implementing our BME.

Q: Do you have some grant programs? How do you let the community be 100% involved?

Andrew: We just launched our grants program! I've been doing calls with grant applicants all week.

Q: What are the benefits of using Render Network for large-scale rendering projects in the film or animation industry?

Andrew: It is amazing how complex 3D and next-generation graphics can be. Some 3D frames can take 1000x more GPU time than video. If you have this as an animator, farming it out to the broader Render Network makes sense.

Q: How does Render Network leverage blockchain technology to enhance the cloud computing experience? Are there any specific advantages or improvements that blockchain brings to the table?

Andrew: Blockchain enables us to quickly pay all our node operators for work done on the network. We have a global network of computing that we can fairly reward for quality work.

Q: Can you provide examples of successful projects that have utilized Render Network's decentralized rendering platform, highlighting the benefits they experienced?

Andrew: The video I’ll present was rendered on the Render Network. Big studios and small artists alike are getting amazing quality.

Q: What is the status regarding the integration with Solana/Metaplex announced at Breakpoint 2021?

Andrew: The community passed the RNP earlier this year. We have it on test networking well and are working through bugs/use. Super excited to see it implemented with the BME.

Q: Can you provide examples of real-world use cases where Render Network and RNDR tokens have been successfully applied? How has the platform impacted industries or projects that require significant computational power?

Andrew: You can read about some of the high-profile projects which have been rendered on the network in our latest BTN blog post.

Q: Can you explain the role of reputation systems in the Render Network ecosystem and how they promote trust and quality?

Andrew: The Render Network uses end-to-end encryption for all jobs. The files distributed to each node are encrypted, and the node operators cannot see what they're rendering. For high-profile projects, you can use the Tier 1 priority-level nodes that operate on TPN-certified data centers. Although I know Jules mentioned that John Knoll (CCO of ILM) was happy enough with tier 2 for some of his commercial work on the network.

Q: Will we get a relative timeline for other product integrations into the #Render ecosystem, e.g. (Redshift l, Arnold, Blender, and Stable diffusion)?

Andrew: Stable Diffusion workloads are already running on the network. Here is more information.
