Tesla’s steering-wheel-free Cybercab launches in restricted areas of Austin. Tesla has opened Cybercab reservations in select areas of Austin, with users able to book rides via the Robotaxi app. The Cybercab features a pure vision system (cameras + neural networks), with no steering wheel, pedals, or mirrors, and is equipped with in-car entertainment and Starlink V5. It has registered 45 vehicles in Texas, bringing the total fleet to 420. Currently, the Cybercab is available only for ride-hailing bookings, not for individual sale, as federal safety regulations still restrict commercialization, and Tesla has not yet applied for an NHTSA exemption.
