The U.S. extends by one month the permit to trade Russian oil already loaded onto ships. The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a license extending until May 16 the authorization to conduct transactions related to Russian oil that was loaded onto vessels prior to the imposition of sanctions. The measure, reported by local media, allows completion of crude oil shipments already in transit, despite restrictions imposed on Moscow due to the war in Ukraine, and aims to prevent immediate disruptions in the global energy market. According to the official document, the extension does not lift sanctions on Russian oil but maintains a limited exception for cargoes already onboard, amid high volatility in international crude oil prices.
