NoirWallet takes network privacy for Zcash users one step further! With the release of NoirWallet version 1.0.40, the Zero-Indexer network privacy infrastructure, developed by Shielded Labs, has been integrated into the wallet. Thanks to the hardware-backed secure infrastructure provided by Caution, a new layer of protection is now active, making it significantly harder for observers to track transactions on the network. What does this update mean? While Zcash’s shielded transactions conceal sender, receiver, and transaction amount information, the IP address from which transactions are sent to the network remains a separate privacy risk. Zero-Indexer is designed specifically to close this gap. With this new integration: - IP Privacy: Eligible transactions are not sent directly to a single server; instead, they are batched together with transactions from multiple operators before being published to the network. - Automatic Protection: Users need not change any settings or possess technical knowledge. - Key Security: Transactions are created and signed on the user’s device by NoirWallet. Private keys are never shared with Zero-Indexer. - Hardware-Backed Verification: AWS Nitro-based secure enclaves ensure the integrity of the software used by the system. - Seamless Continuity: If Zero-Indexer is unavailable, the wallet automatically reverts to standard Zcash RPC connectivity. Transactions are batched and published approximately every 20 blocks—roughly every 12.5 minutes. As a result, users may experience a slight delay. However, this delay is an intentional part of the privacy design, making it harder to distinguish individual transactions on the network. The key advancement here is that Zcash’s privacy model no longer stops at on-chain transaction data—user network connections and transaction submission processes now benefit from enhanced, comprehensive privacy protection. In the Zcash ecosystem, privacy now encompasses not only what is sent, but also how transactions reach the network.
