Zcash Plans NU7 Activation Around November 5, Cutting Block Times to 25 Seconds Zcash developers have agreed on block 3,543,405 for NU7 activation, expected around November 5. The upgrade will reduce block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. It will also temporarily remove 60% of each block’s transaction fees from circulation, with payments to miners beginning around February 2031, while preserving the existing mining reward halving schedule. Zcash’s original privacy system, Sprout, will shut down entirely, making any funds not moved before activation unspendable. As of October 21 at 08:00 (UTC), the activation-height proposal had not yet been merged into the deployment specification. The chosen height must also be incorporated into node software before the upgrade can take effect.
