🔐 A New Approach Against Quantum Attacks in Zcash Swaps Zcash’s shielded transactions are designed to keep users’ financial information private. However, the future emergence of sufficiently powerful quantum computers could introduce certain privacy risks, particularly through shielded addresses shared on public platforms. Adam Tucker from the @ZakuraZcash team explores the One-Time ivk approach as a solution to this issue. So what exactly is the problem? In some swaps executed via NEAR Intents, Zcash-side refund addresses are recorded on NEAR’s public chain. Although these addresses appear different, they may all be linked to the same incoming viewing key of a single Zcash account. In the future, a powerful quantum computer could decrypt the key behind one of these addresses, enabling it to link multiple payments made to that same account. Zakura’s solution: A unique key for each swap. 🔹 Independent addresses: A distinct incoming viewing key is generated for each swap. Thus, compromising one address does not automatically expose other swaps. 🔹 Single account, same spending authority: There’s no need to split funds across multiple accounts. Since the spending key remains unchanged, users can continue managing their funds from their existing account. 🔹 More efficient wallet recovery: Each new key adds an additional scope that must be scanned during recovery. Zakura reduces this burden by leveraging Private Information Retrieval (PIR) technology, which allows the wallet to query the server for specific transactions without revealing which address it is searching for. 🔹 NEAR swap-specific indexing: Custom filters and specialized querying methods make it easier to locate transactions on NEAR, reducing the need for wallets to scan the entire blockchain from start to finish for every new key. The key detail here: This approach does not mean quantum computers will break all of Zcash’s privacy. Rather, its goal is to make it significantly harder to link a future-compromised public address to a user’s other transactions. Software wallets like Vizor, which use Zakura’s open-source cryptography and wallet libraries, are expected to integrate this feature in the coming weeks. Hardware wallet support will depend on future firmware updates from respective manufacturers. Privacy isn’t just about defending against today’s threats—it’s also about anticipating risks that may emerge in the future. 🔗 Source: https://t.co/XMCas9lXH7 #Zcash #ZEC #Privacy #Crypto
