I came across @BITFOOTS_ and initially thought it was just another NFT project trying to catch the current Zcash wave. Then I actually looked into the story behind it. Turns out, these 303 creatures weren’t cooked up last week. The team says they spent 1,000+ hours creating the collection, originally with Bitcoin Ordinals in mind. The launch was even prepared, but instead of forcing the collection into a market they didn’t feel was right, they put it on ice for roughly 2.5 years. Now they’re bringing the Bitfoots back on Zcash. And honestly, the concept makes a lot more sense when you understand the theme. Bigfoot is literally a creature people claim exists but can never seem to find. Now you have 303 unique Bitfoots hiding in the Forest of a privacy-focused blockchain. That’s where the whole idea of The Hunt starts making sense. You’re not simply being told to mint another PFP. You apply. You wait. You get approved. Then you go looking for your Bitfoot. There are only 303 of them, and every single one is a 1/1 rather than thousands of randomly generated variations. There’s also an interesting connection to Bitcoin Ordinals. The project says approved minters who provide a Taproot/Ordinals address can receive a corresponding Bitcoin version, meaning the collection is creating an experience that touches both Zcash and Bitcoin. Some pieces can also have Ordinals-specific traits or colors. And the team currently says the Zcash mint is around $5, mainly to cover launchpad and network costs. That part actually makes the whole thing feel less like let’s squeeze everything possible out of the mint and more like they’re finally giving an old piece of work the launch they originally wanted for it. That’s the team’s stated rationale, not a guarantee about the project’s future. 303 creatures. Grat job @JaypeeBTC and every other amazing team.
