Zcash just set a date for its biggest upgrade in years. NU7 activates Nov. 5 and it cuts block times by 67%. The vote was near-unanimous. The market is already moving. • Block interval: 75s → 25s (3x faster) • Community vote: 99.9% support block time cut • Halving schedule: Preserved (98.9% support) • Testnet activation: Oct. 6 • Final mainnet decision: Oct. 20 • V4 transactions: Deprecated • NSM: Network Sustainability Mechanism integrated • ZEC price: ~$1,400+ (up 169% in 30 days) Here's the nuance most headlines will miss. This is a target date, not a guarantee. Developers will make the final call on Oct. 20 after reviewing testnet performance. If something breaks, the date slips. Also absent from NU7: Zcash Shielded Assets (ZSAs). The v6 transaction format isn't included in this upgrade to ensure network stability. ZSAs the feature that would turn Zcash into a multi-asset privacy platform - are delayed to a future upgrade. The upgrade itself is primarily infrastructure: faster blocks, a sustainability mechanism, and deprecation of old transaction formats. Wallets are largely unaffected, but full nodes, indexers, and block explorers will need to adjust. If ZSAs are delayed and the upgrade is mostly infrastructure, does NU7 justify the 169% rally - or is the real catalyst still ahead?
