This is exactly the kind of conversation the XRPL ecosystem should be having. We’ve been thinking about the same question at XRPresso: what should “Verified” actually mean, and how do you make sure the standard is applied consistently? Our approach is to automate the evidence, not the trust decision. On XRPresso, collection verification is being designed around a few principles: • Verification is free. You cannot buy the trust badge. Paid features such as Featured, Spotlight and other premium placement are visibility products only and have no bearing on verification. • The baseline criteria are published and applied consistently. Collections are evaluated against the same versioned criteria, including things like time established on XRPresso, collection activity, unique holder wallets, secondary-market activity and account standing. • Passing the numbers does not automatically make you Verified. That is important. Five wallets can potentially be controlled by one person. Transactions can potentially be manufactured. An algorithm alone cannot determine whether a project deserves the platform’s trust signal. • Verification remains human-reviewed. The automated system determines whether a collection is eligible for review. An XRPresso moderator then reviews the collection, creator association, obvious copycat/impersonation concerns, known moderation/IP issues, and whether the activity shows obvious signs of being manufactured simply to satisfy the verification requirements. • Some requirements can be overridden, but the exception is recorded. There may be legitimate reasons to review a collection before an ordinary threshold is met. If an admin makes that exception, the reason becomes part of the internal verification record rather than creating an invisible second set of rules. • Trust and safety blocks cannot simply be overridden. A suspended collection, active moderation review, legal hold or applicable marketplace ban does not become Verified because someone types an override reason. • Every verification decision is auditable. We retain the criteria version, evidence considered, human-review acknowledgement, date and verification history. If a collection is later unverified and reverified, that history is preserved rather than overwritten. • Users will be able to understand why a collection is Verified. The goal is for the badge to have an explanation behind it rather than simply appearing because an administrator clicked a button. And we are being very deliberate about what the badge doesn't mean. XRPresso Verified is not KYC, an investment recommendation, a copyright certification, a guarantee against a rug pull, or a promise about what a creator will do tomorrow. It means something narrower and, we think, more defensible: XRPresso reviewed this collection against its published standards and the evidence available at that point in time. We also keep other signals separate. A Verified collection, an on-chain Verified Seller credential, a Linked X account, an XRPresso Seal, seller reviews and paid visibility are different things. None should be allowed to borrow credibility from another. No verification system can eliminate bad actors from Web3. But marketplaces can make it much harder to buy, manufacture or receive credibility through opaque exceptions. That’s the standard we’re trying to build toward at XRPresso, and I think greater transparency around what “Verified” means across the XRPL would be good for everyone.
