💸 Stablecoins have been flowing out of South Korea for 18 consecutive months South Korean investors have maintained a steady outflow of stablecoins to foreign exchanges for 18 consecutive months, according to data from Yonhap News Agency and South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service. Just in June 2026, the country’s five largest crypto platforms based on the won sent $2.7625 trillion won in stablecoins abroad, while receiving $2.2022 trillion won. This resulted in a net outflow of 560.3 billion won, approximately $367 million. These movements reflect demand for products and services still limited on local platforms. Major destinations include cryptocurrency and equity derivatives, Real World Assets (RWA)-linked products, DeFi services, and staking opportunities. The prolonged outflow highlights a gap between user demand and the availability of products within the domestic regulated market. South Korean investors continue to turn to international platforms to access a broader range of digital financial instruments. The phenomenon presents new challenges for the country’s regulators, who aim to develop a framework for digital assets while balancing consumer protection, innovation, and competitiveness against global markets. The trend also reflects a broader dynamic in crypto: when certain products are unavailable in local markets, capital tends to shift toward jurisdictions offering a wider array of digital services.
