@tether just made it clear that its ambition no longer ends at stablecoins. Tether AI Research has released VisionPsy-Nano, an open-weight, ~460M-parameter vision-language model designed to run directly on consumer phones. In its published in-house evaluation using a single VLMEvalKit harness, the 460M model scored 62.3 normalized and compared favorably on 16 of 17 benchmarks against the tested ~0.5B cohort. The Flash version retains about 99% of the full model’s quality while reaching first-token generation up to ~36x faster on an iPhone 15 than SmolVLM2-500M and the nanoVLM base model. The bigger signal: a stablecoin company is using crypto-scale resources to build open, local AI that depends less on the cloud. Decentralized money may be funding decentralized intelligence.
