According to Decrypt, the UK Parliament’s Standards Commissioner is conducting a formal investigation into Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, over allegations that he failed to declare a £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) personal donation from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne. Harborne, who holds a 12% stake in the stablecoin issuer Tether, has donated around £12 million to Reform UK and is one of its primary funders. Farage claims the donation occurred before he announced his candidacy for the 2024 general election and was intended solely to ensure his long-term personal security, thus arguing it did not require disclosure. However, under the House of Commons Code of Conduct, newly elected MPs must register any reportable interests received in the 12 months prior to their election within one month of taking office.
