BREAKING: FRENCH MINISTER CALLS FOR EURO STABLECOINS BY 2026 French Finance Minister Roland Lescure has urged European banks to aggressively develop euro-based stablecoins and tokenized deposits - calling the current scarcity not satisfactory. The move aims to challenge U.S. dollar dominance in digital payments. Tether's dollar-pegged stablecoin circulation exceeds $185 billion, while Societe Generale's euro coin holds just 107 million euros. A consortium including ING and BNP Paribas plans to launch a competitive euro stablecoin in late 2026. Lescure also encouraged banks to explore tokenized deposits and backed the ECB's plan to use a digital euro as an anchor for tokenization starting in 2026. The push is framed as vital for European financial sovereignty.
