the most interesting stablecoin news this week wasn't a token. it was a regulator. on oct 14 the EBA classified USDC as the first "significant" e-money token in the EU under MiCA, out of 45 notified. from nov 12 it shares supervision with france's ACPR, and the EBA signed an MoU with new york's NYDFS to coordinate across the atlantic. meanwhile, the private side. mastercard and BVNK launched a platform that keeps fiat and stablecoin balances in the same account. cross river, a US bank, announced RLUSD inside its core banking system, next to ACH and wire. and stripe says privy now handles ~$25B a month in transactions (stripe's number, total volume, not only stablecoins). my read: stablecoins are quietly becoming bank plumbing, and getting supervised like a bank is the price of that. ripple's own exec basically said it: they win "by becoming part of the banking infrastructure businesses already use." the fair pushback is that "significant" is an automatic size test, not a political signal, and stablecoin card spend is still ~$1.2B a month, tiny next to cards overall. maybe it's just a week full of press releases. i still think the direction is pretty hard to miss.
