One line from my Nucleus Codes research changed how I read @vangrid_io’s latest agent chatter: No account, no API key. Vangrid’s current docs describe pay per request access to anchored capture data using x402, settled in USDC on Base. That changes the product shape. Traditional data APIs usually make someone create an account, provision credentials, choose a plan, then manage billing. x402 makes spatial data look more like a metered internet resource: request → pay → receive data. The interesting part is not crypto payments by themselves. It is removing the subscription layer between software and fresh physical world information. A system could consume one piece of ground truth exactly when the task requires it instead of maintaining another SaaS relationship. Capture count measures supply. I’d start watching something different as this develops: how much real world data gets purchased one request at a time. That would measure whether the grid is becoming machine readable commerce, not just a large dataset.
