After the Senate vote, the same share was worth 5 🔮 That's the whole idea of a prediction market, and right now it's one of the fastest-growing corners of crypto. Polymarket, which Shayne Coplan started in 2020 out of a bathroom office, got up to $2B from the owner of the New York Stock Exchange last year, is in talks to raise at a valuation above $20B, and has passed $1B in annualized revenue. In July its international and US platforms, together with rival Kalshi, traded a record $50,6B combined. Here's how it actually works 👇 Every market is a yes-or-no question about a real event, and every share pays $1 if its side wins and nothing if it loses. So the price reads as a probability: a 'YES' share at 42 cents means the market sees a 42% chance, and the 'NO' share costs the remaining 58. Nobody sets the odds. Prices move because people buy and sell to each other, which also means you don't have to wait for the ending. Buy 100 'YES' shares at 40 cents, watch the news push them to 55, sell, and you've made $15 before anything is decided. It works the other way too, and selling early is how people cut a loss before it turns into a total one. When the event is over, someone proposes the result and puts up a deposit behind it. If nobody disputes it within about two hours, the market settles, and winning shares can be claimed for $1 each. A few things worth knowing before you try it: ➡️ You're trading the wording as much as the event. Vague terms like "soon" or "significant" invite disputes, so read the resolution rules before you buy. ➡️ The price is the crowd's current guess, not the true odds.
