Most maps tell you what a place looked like. @vangrid_io is focused on capturing what’s actually there now. Instead of relying on old imagery, a requester can fund a bounty for a specific location, whether that’s a warehouse aisle, loading dock or stairwell. A contributor nearby can then use a regular phone to record a slow orbit of the space. Privacy is handled before the data leaves the device, with faces and license plates blurred on-device. The capture is fingerprinted with its content hash, approximate location and timestamp, then the fingerprints are batched and anchored on Base. That’s the interesting part: commission the capture, then give the buyer something they can verify. This matters for Physical AI because the question isn’t always “what does this place look like?” It can be “what does this exact space look like right now?” Satellites mostly give you the overhead view, while mapping vehicles are limited to the roads they can reach.
