Hyperliquid is adding portfolio margin in an upcoming network upgrade (now live on testnet in pre-alpha). Portfolio margin unifies spot & perps into one balance, boosting capital efficiency and reducing liquidation risk. Spot and perp PnL can offset each other, enabling strategies like carry trades (spot long + perp short). Unused borrowable assets automatically earn yield, and all HIP-3 DEXs are supported. Portfolio margin will also integrate with HyperEVM lending protocols over time. Important: Pre-alpha has tight limits. Only USDC is borrowable and HYPE is the only collateral for now. Test with <$1k. More assets (USDH, BTC) coming in later phases.
