This is just ridiculous! In March, $TAO surged by 100% after NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang liked it—simply because its decentralized subnet had trained the Covenant-72B model. How quickly things change: now, Sam Dare, founder of @covenant_ai, has torn down this very “monument” he helped build with an open letter. How should we view this? Utterly speechless 😳: 1) The fact that Covenant-72B was developed doesn’t become false because of infighting within the ecosystem. At the very least, Jensen Huang liked it—this proves that decentralized training of large models is viable. Crucially, it has demonstrated to both the Crypto space and broader Web2 AI sectors that decentralized AI training isn’t just a concept—it’s real. The fundamental technological foundation remains intact. 2) Leaving aside the conflicting claims from both sides—who’s telling the truth? Is TAO’s founder Const maintaining a fake decentralized narrative, or has Covenant’s founder become arrogant and greedy after helping elevate TAO? One thing is certain: because of this internal feud, TAO dropped 20%. This confirms that the Bittensor ecosystem’s structure is fragile—its narrative has always been overly concentrated on a few star teams. A truly decentralized network shouldn’t trigger systemic panic just because one team departs. 3) On the flip side, other fundamental metrics haven’t collapsed: over 125 subnets are still operational, Q1 real revenue reached $43 million, staking rate remains at 75%, and TAO’s position as the leading project in the AI + Crypto sector still holds strong. Even more interestingly, Bittensor has now proposed allowing alpha holders to vote on taking over subnets. If this proposal is genuinely implemented, this conflict might actually force a real governance upgrade? If they survive this, it could even turn out to be a blessing in disguise. That’s all. The most ironic part? The very team that proved decentralized AI works has now announced its exit with the declaration: “This was never decentralized to begin with.” No one saw this script coming. If everything was just performance from the start, then we’re all just playing different roles—lead or supporting. 😓
