DATA Network and Trace are joining Sui and Walrus. The next generation of AI models is constrained less by compute and more by access to real-world data that labs are cleared to use. The open web has been scraped. What comes next: Clinical notes, dashcam footage, factory operations, customer calls, robotics demonstrations, lives with people. It is personal, often regulated, and requires consent plus clear provenance. The EU AI Act and ongoing litigation have turned this from a preference into a procurement requirement. Trace, the onchain registry from the DATA Network (@datafdn), was built for this layer. It records the origin of each contribution, the rights attached to it, and settles payment to the contributor. It has already registered more than 250 million contributions and processes millions of receipts per day. Applications such as Kled, Numo, and Oto are licensing this data to frontier AI labs and robotics companies. Bringing this supply chain onto Sui and Walrus connects the pieces that were previously separate. Walrus becomes the default storage layer. It keeps an encrypted, immutable copy of the original file, restricts access to licensed buyers, and anchors integrity proofs on Sui. The hash of a Trace record can be regenerated from the data itself rather than from application-supplied metadata, so later processing can be checked against the original. Sui (@SuiNetwork) handles ownership and execution. Datasets and their licenses become programmable objects that can be managed onchain. Transactions settle in under a second and run in parallel, which is necessary when millions of registrations and license transfers need to occur daily. Together, Trace, Walrus, and Sui give AI labs a single place to source rights-cleared real-world data with provenance that legal and compliance teams can accept, while contributors are paid and access remains controlled. Sui Foundation is investing $30 million in the DATA Network, and the protocol will run natively on Sui with a one-to-one token migration.Sui Foundation becomes the largest institutional holder, and SY Lee joins as Strategic Advisor. The result is infrastructure that makes consented, verifiable training data operational at scale the kind of data the next models actually need. #DATAonSuiQuest
