Compensation paid to U.S. workers rose slightly more than expected in the second quarter but still lagged the pace of price increases. The employment cost index increased 0.9% for the April-through-June period, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. That was slightly above the 0.8% consensus estimate from Dow Jones. On an annual basis, the index increased 3.4%, which was just below the 3.5% gain in the consumer price index, which is the BLS’ main inflation gauge. $SPY $QQQ
