Sector Flow — 7/20 $SPY is slightly green at 745.17, up 0.25%, but this is still a pretty mixed tape underneath. The only real leadership right now is coming from $XLE, $XLK, and $XLC. $XLE is leading at +0.99%, $XLK is up +0.82%, and $XLC is up +0.67%. That is helping keep $SPY positive, especially with tech and communication services holding up. But outside of those groups, most sectors are red. $XLB, $XLRE, $XLP, $XLU, $XLV, $XLI, $XLY, and $XLF are all slightly lower. None of them are getting completely smoked, but it does show the move is not very broad. Volume is also still light. $SPY is at 19.63M vs a 52.45M 30-day average, so I would not call this a super high-conviction push yet. My read is pretty simple: $SPY is green, but the tape is being held up by a few key sectors. Energy, tech, and communication services are doing the work, while the rest of the board is mostly soft. Not a terrible tape, but not a clean broad risk-on move either. Sector flow is one of those @unusual_whales tools that makes this easier to spot quickly. Instead of just seeing $SPY green and assuming everything is strong, you can see exactly which groups are carrying the market and which ones are dragging.
