What is the biggest mistake made in financial markets? Brooks Cutright, Portfolio Manager at Hedgeye Asset Management, described one of the biggest mistakes investors make. Brooks Cutright: “I think investors try too hard to outperform indices and the overall market composition. If you were to rebuild the S&P 500 today, approximately 110 to 120 companies would likely fail to meet the criteria for inclusion. This means that getting in (or meeting those standards) is much harder than staying out—or remaining inside.” Assessment: Sometimes, the biggest mistake you can make when investing is trying too hard to be smarter than the market. As the saying goes, being clever often backfires.
