Elon Musk (@elonmusk) said SpaceX ( $SPCX) plans to carry operational Starlink V3 satellites aboard Starship’s first orbital flight, now targeted for Sept. 28. Musk said the mission is expected to launch in seven days and will mark the first time Starship carries V3 satellites intended for actual operational use. SpaceX originally targeted Sept. 22 for Flight 14 but later pushed the launch to Sept. 28, pending regulatory approval. The company has not provided additional details about the delay. The mission represents a major step for both Starship and Starlink. Musk has said the V3 constellation could eventually deliver more than 100 times the bandwidth of Starlink’s current network of roughly 11,000 satellites. SpaceX is also transitioning more Starlink launches away from Falcon 9. The company has ended planned Falcon 9 Starlink missions from Cape Canaveral, with future East Coast deployments expected to use Starship. That transition could dramatically increase the amount of Starlink capacity deployed per launch, making Starship central to SpaceX’s plans for expanding global connectivity. Musk has also outlined much larger ambitions for the rocket, recently saying Starship could eventually deliver between 1 million and 10 million tons of payload to orbit annually once operations reach scale. Flight 14 therefore represents more than another test mission. If successful, it would move Starship into orbital operations while beginning the next major expansion phase of the Starlink network.
