Why did $IONQ rise after hours? Demonstrated real-time quantum error correction on a single CPU. Quantum computers quickly encounter errors during computation, so they need to "continue operating while correcting errors in real time." Until now, this "correction role (decoder)" required specialized, expensive hardware. IonQ has shown that it’s possible to use just one commercial CPU as the decoder, enabling the quantum computer to operate with almost no interruption (only ~0.02% latency).
