Hackmanac’s weekly roundup for 14–20 October reports 43 claimed attacks by NoName057(16), 138 incidents affecting the US, and 112 targeting government, military and law-enforcement organisations. It estimates 82 incidents as critical and about 57.8 TB of data as claimed compromised. These are reported figures; claims of attacks or data compromise are not all independently confirmed. Canisters run WebAssembly code in isolated execution environments, with code and persistent state replicated across the nodes of their subnet. For update calls, subnet consensus determines the ordered execution and resulting state. 🔐 Certified data adds verifiability. A subnet signs a hash of its replicated state using threshold cryptography. Applications can return a Merkle witness, allowing clients to verify that a response corresponds to certified state—not simply trust a database response from one server. ⚙️ Access control remains in the application design. Canisters can check caller principals before allowing sensitive actions; separate canisters can isolate functions and assets. Protocol upgrades are governed through the NNS, while an application can use an SNS DAO to govern its own upgrades. 🌐 These capabilities can support auditable services with replicated state and cryptographically verifiable records. They do not prevent phishing, compromised devices, insecure application code or every denial-of-service attack.
