$ICP by @dfinity — THE @krakenfx SECURITY INCIDENT SHOWS WHY THE OLD INTERNET MODEL IS BROKEN Kraken states that funds were never at risk and core systems were not breached. However, the critical point remains: insiders still had access to client support data. That is the structural weakness of the current internet architecture. Centralized systems rely on: - internal staff access - backend administrative interfaces - mutable databases - trust-based operational controls Kraken detected the activity and shut it down quickly, but the event still demonstrates a persistent attack surface: insider access to sensitive systems. Across both incidents: - ~2,000 client accounts were potentially viewed - This represents ~0.02% of Kraken’s total clients While limited in scale, the mechanism of compromise is the same one repeatedly seen across technology platforms: trusted internal access being abused or coerced. $ICP by @dfinity introduces a different model. Applications can run fully on-chain using smart contract canisters where: - backend logic runs on-chain - data integrity is cryptographically enforced - infrastructure is tamper-resistant - fewer centralized admin surfaces exist This reduces reliance on traditional internal control layers where insiders or compromised accounts can access sensitive systems. Kraken handled the incident correctly. But the broader lesson remains: The legacy internet security model still depends heavily on human trust layers. Architectures that reduce those trust layers will fundamentally change the attack surface. The technology already exists. Most of the world simply has not adopted it yet. #ICP #DFINITY #WorldComputer #CyberSecurity #BlockchainSecurity #Web3 #CloudSecurity #CryptoSecurity #DataProtection #InsiderThreat #Decentralization #SmartContracts #ChainKey #InternetComputer
