Cloud providers give big discounts if you sign a three-year commitment. A New York startup says you can get the same discounts without signing one. The company is North, led by CEO and co-founder Matt Biringer. On October 15, it announced a $60 million Series B. It gets you there two ways. With Flexbot, the startup holds the long-term commitments itself, so you get the discount without the lock-in. With Autobot, you keep your own commitments and the platform buys and adjusts them month to month. It connects to AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure with read-only access, and savings start within minutes of signup, it says. The harder problem is that bills now span more than the cloud. One AI feature can touch cloud compute, model APIs, and a data platform at once, and many companies track each in a separate tool. PeakSpan, the round's lead investor, estimates 30% of cloud spend is wasted before AI and data costs are even counted. So it also tracks AI spend. A tool called TokenFlow shows what OpenAI and Anthropic models cost next to the cloud bill, and Snowflake is covered too. An agent named Noros answers cost questions in plain language. It says it now manages nearly $2 billion in cloud spend and has saved customers more than $400 million, with 98.8% customer retention. Customers include AssemblyAI, Tines, Atlan, SnapLogic, and Imply. AssemblyAI's head of inference says its savings rate has held around 50% as its infrastructure scaled. PeakSpan Capital led the round, with Companyon Ventures, Alpaca, Gaingels, and others joining. The money goes to automated optimization, deeper integrations, AI spend management, and hiring. Biringer told Axios the company may raise a Series C next summer, potentially at a $1 billion valuation.
