The case for an independent Starknet L1 ➛ What happens when the next major security upgrade can't wait? Blockchains must prepare for threats that may not be practical to exploit today but could become serious tomorrow. That’s why @Starknet exploring its own L1 is worth paying attention to. The key question is simple: who controls the timeline when security needs to evolve? ➛ Ethereum dependency is the key issue. As an Ethereum L2, Starknet benefits from Ethereum's security and settlement. But some critical upgrades, especially those involving the base layer, depend on Ethereum's roadmap. If quantum threats evolve faster than expected, waiting for another network's migration could limit how quickly Starknet responds. ➛ Why consider an independent L1? More control over its own foundation. An independent L1 could give Starknet greater freedom to decide when to upgrade its core security infrastructure, rather than depending on Ethereum for every base-layer change. That autonomy could become important as cryptographic standards evolve. ➛ Quantum resistance is a journey, not a finished achievement. Starknet already uses STARK proofs, which are designed to resist known quantum-computing attacks, and its account abstraction supports experimentation with quantum-resistant signatures. However, that does not mean the entire network is already quantum-safe. Bridges, data availability and other dependencies still matter. Independence also brings responsibility. Running an independent L1 isn't just about escaping Ethereum's upgrade timeline. Starknet would also need to carefully address its own security, consensus, data availability and infrastructure. Greater autonomy means taking responsibility for more of the system.. ➛ The goal should be stronger long-term security, not independence for its own sake. The idea. Preparing for quantum threats today could help Starknet avoid rushed security migrations tomorrow. Exploring an independent L1 is one possible path, but the technical details, trade-offs and community decisions still matter. The question isn't simply whether Starknet can become an L1. It's whether doing so gives the network a better way to protect users as threats evolve. What would you prioritize for Starknet: greater control over its security upgrades or keeping Ethereum as its settlement layer? https://t.co/zNcc1Dqmr3
