an autonomous agent can succeed and still be inefficient. thats the next metric i'd want beside capability. @TheARCTERMINAL recently ran five autonomous agents on Ethereum across 27 action types with onchain settlement. yesterday i was thinking about failure recovery. today im thinking about cost. if two agents reach the same outcome, but one needs: 10x more retries 10x more transactions more compute more tool calls they arent equally capable. once agents have real economic stakes, efficiency becomes part of intelligence. the interesting benchmark stops being only: can the agent complete this? and becomes: how reliably can it complete this without wasting resources? humans already judge systems this way. speed alone isnt enough. success alone isnt enough. cost alone isnt enough. good autonomy balances all three. the next agent leaderboard i'd want to see is success rate × recovery quality × cost per successful outcome. what metric would you add?
