None of the major L2s are fully decentralized yet Arbitrum, Base, OP Mainnet, zkSync, Abstract - every single one still has some level of trusted human control over your funds. There’s a small group of trusted people who, in a real emergency, can step in and do something about it. But before you freak out, this isn’t the same as those DeFi exploits or bridge hacks. For anything bad to happen here, it would have to come from inside. When the Kelp DAO exploit drained roughly $292M, Arbitrum’s Security Council used its emergency powers to freeze tens of millions in stolen ETH and limit the damage. That was the right move. Abstract is built for mass adoption - games, social, gasless UX. In that consumer-first niche, the ability to quickly respond to a crisis is more valuable than perfect decentralization on day one. Pure decentralization sounds good, but when it’s your funds on the line, you want someone who can actually step in and fix it. Yeah, no major L2 is fully decentralized right now, but they’re all moving in that direction.
