SOUTH KOREA TAX OFFICE LEAKS CRYPTO SEED PHRASE, $4.8M IN TOKENS DRAINED South Korea’s National Tax Service accidentally exposed a crypto wallet seed phrase in an official press release tied to a tax enforcement campaign, leading to the loss of 4 million PRTG tokens worth about $4.8M, according to local media. The release reportedly included an unredacted image of a Ledger hardware wallet and its full mnemonic phrase. Blockchain data linked the leaked phrase to an Ethereum address that received three transfers totaling 4 million PRTG before the entire balance was sent out in a single transaction. Jaewoo Cho of Hansung University confirmed the theft, though he suggested the real world damage may be limited if the tokens are difficult to liquidate. The incident is now being seen as a major wake up call for how public agencies handle seized digital assets.
