When it comes to futures leverage, I personally don’t see leverage itself as a major issue. The real risk isn’t leverage—it’s misjudging position size and lacking a clear definition of R. For example, 1R = 0.5% to 2% of your total seed capital. This varies by individual, but as long as you stay within a reasonable range, and always set a stop-loss before entering a position to limit losses to within 1R, it ultimately doesn’t matter whether your leverage is 2x or 200x. Loss size is directly proportional to position size. Leverage simply enables positions that are too large to handle. If you fundamentally don’t understand this and believe leverage itself is dangerous, then yes—leverage is indeed risky for you. Therefore, statements like “low leverage is fine” or “the liquidation price is far away, so it’s safe” are nothing more than the naive remarks of someone who truly doesn’t understand the basics.
