At ThoughtSpot, about 50 people in marketing worked across dozens of tools. Its co-founder says a team of five should be able to do that job. On October 20, he raised $48 million to build the system. The company is Different, based in San Francisco with an office in Bangalore. CEO Ajeet Singh co-founded Nutanix and ThoughtSpot. Abhishek Pani, the chief product officer, led the machine-learning team behind Adobe's marketing products. Abhinav Yajurvedi, the CTO, built marketing infrastructure for Flipkart and Myntra. Singh lived the problem at both of his earlier companies. Doing more marketing meant hiring more specialists and buying more tools, and every addition brought more coordination with it. Different is an AI system that runs B2B demand generation from start to finish. A marketer sets business goals, and it suggests the accounts, segments, personas, and messaging angles to go after. The marketer sets the budget and brand limits. Then it builds the ads, emails, and landing pages, personalized by account, persona, and industry, and launches them across channels. While campaigns run, it watches which messages work for which audience and recommends changes to budget, messaging, and offers. What works carries into the next campaign. Marketers approve everything before it goes live, and the company says guardrails stop anything off-brand or over budget. It spent a year with early customers before launching. Different says Descope's two marketers run up to seven programs at once across 2,800 target accounts, and that it found and redirected 60% of Descope's paid spend that was going to poor targeting. Motif's three-person marketing team went from one campaign at a time to more than a dozen across four channels in a month. Rox says Different found LinkedIn spend going to companies outside its target list, and broken tracking that had held back retargeting for six months. These results come from the company and its customers. The $48 million seed was led by General Catalyst, with Lightspeed Venture Partners participating. The money goes to engineering and go-to-market hiring. HubSpot, Salesforce, and 6sense are adding AI to their own demand-generation tools, and Gradial raised $65 million in June to automate enterprise marketing operations. Singh says the next generation of B2B companies won't need huge marketing teams.
