Everything is fake scarcity. Look at what’s happening. Elon Musk says he will give one SpaceX share to every child in America in 2027. Roughly 73 million kids. At around $146 per share, that’s more than $10 billion of equity being distributed. Now think about what a stock actually is. It’s a a literal entry on a ledger representing a percentage claim on a company. If Musk transfers shares he already owns, nothing new has to be created. Ownership simply moves from one ledger entry to another. But corporations can also authorize and issue new shares. More shares = More units = More claims on the same underlying company. When that happens, existing shareholders are diluted. We live in a world where the number of financial claims can continually expand. The only scarce things are the real assets underneath it: Energy. Land. Time. Labor. Commodities. Infrastructure. Productive capacity. That’s why Bitcoin is fundamentally different. Nobody can vote to issue another billion bitcoin. There is no CEO who can authorize another share offering. There is no central bank that can change the issuance schedule because the economy needs stimulus. The monetary policy is enforced by a decentralized consensus system, with proof-of-work making attacks on that system enormously expensive in real-world energy. The last absolute monetary scarcity is Bitcoin.
