Gm Creators ZKPoSP: Protecting Dormant Crypto Wallets From Future Quantum Threats Without Moving Funds Dormant crypto wallets could face a serious challenge in a future with quantum computers. The problem is simple. Many older wallets were created years ago, and moving their funds to new addresses may not be easy for every holder. So, how can we protect these wallets without moving the coins? @americanfort_io is exploring a possible solution called ZKPoSP, which stands for Zero Knowledge Proof of Seed Provenance. Here is how it works. Normally, proving control of a crypto wallet involves using a digital signature. But if future quantum computers become powerful enough to break the cryptography behind that signature, some wallets could become vulnerable. ZKPoSP takes a different approach. Instead of using the traditional signature method, it uses a zero knowledge proof to demonstrate that someone possesses the original wallet seed and the information needed to derive the address. The goal is to prove ownership while keeping the existing address and funds unchanged. Here are three important things to understand: → No need to move funds: The proposal aims to protect existing wallets without forcing users to transfer their coins to new addresses. → Fast verification: Its current prototype reportedly takes around 12 to 13 seconds to generate a proof, while verification takes about 10 milliseconds. → Security is still being studied: The approach relies on hash based cryptography instead of traditional elliptic curve assumptions, but its post quantum security has not been proven. The biggest challenge may not be the technology itself. It may be getting people to use it. If generating a proof is difficult, many wallet owners could simply ignore the solution, just as they have ignored their wallets for years. That is why making security simple and convenient matters. For now, ZKPoSP is a research proposal, not a proven fix for quantum threats. More testing and independent review are needed before anyone can treat it as a reliable protection method. The bigger idea is worth watching: can we improve wallet security without forcing people to move their funds? Would you use a system like this to protect an older wallet, or would you rather wait for a fully tested solution?
