ABSTRACTION DOES NOT REMOVE TRUST Keeping your keys does not mean controlling your payment infrastructure. That distinction matters. Utexo Cloud offers managed Lightning infrastructure while stating that customers retain control of their keys. A business can outsource node operations without handing over custody of its funds. But operational dependencies remain. Who operates the node? Who controls liquidity access? What happens when the API goes offline? Can the business switch providers without rebuilding its payment stack? These are not custody questions. They are infrastructure questions. And Bitcoin cannot answer them. Utexo is an interesting case because it separates key ownership from infrastructure management. That could make Bitcoin-native stablecoin payments easier to integrate. But easier integration does not automatically mean operational independence. Self-custody protects one boundary. Provider resilience, execution reliability and portability require others. Bitcoin can remain a neutral settlement layer while businesses still depend on operators above it. That is not necessarily a design failure. It is a dependency that needs to be understood, measured and controlled. Good abstraction hides complexity from users. It should never hide critical dependencies from the businesses relying on it. @utexocom #Utexo #Bitcoin #Lightning #Payments #Infrastructure
